To mark what would have been Richard Diebenkorns birthday today, here is a collaboration piece I recently completed with @tom_voyce in homage to him. On abstraction and painting Diebenkorn said; “All paintings start out of a mood, out of a relationship with things or people, out of a complete visual impression. To call this expression abstract seems to me often to confuse the issue. Abstract means literally to draw from or separate. Some thoughts, reflections and observations from todays research meeting.
- Importance of writing about the work as it is being created: tests whether one thoroughly understands the implications of what they’re doing, whilst clarifying and recording the processes by which it is done.
– Keep a diary open at all times so as recording observation and reflection become a continuous process.
